As for Covid, despite what both sides of the debate say, I have a very simple motto in life - if anyone talks to me and is attempting to target my emotions rather than my intellect then red flags are raised...facts do not need to be sensationalized, and the moment Covid hit the news and the moment politicians started to open their mouths it was all aimed at the emotions...I even remember your mate, McGowan saying that Covid will get you even if you are in the middle of the desert...if this is not a perfect example of aiming at the emotions then i dont know what is.
I know you said by savage, but this post resonates. I've come to question everything the last few years, although I started before Covid & it was a slow road / transformation. I was always pretty damn liberal (USA context of the word), but I wouldn't say I've switched to conservie, either. More realizing (yes, should've been obvious) how the political class, especially the long-serving ones, get richer and richer and really care very little about constituencies. I could go on and on, lots more to my story but anyhow thanks for sharing your journey.
I'm so happy that I never took the shot. I found my way around it during my late studies/first job. I took part in the protests against the lockdowns here which were peaceful 1989-like marches (East German thing, most people who took part were veterans from the 1989 revolution). And in the beginning, since this protests started here, it was impressive how much cops they sent. I live in a small town and we had like 500 protesters met by 300 cops. Later, they couldn't keep up that numbers because protests started everywhere.
I saw things, mate. Police encircling a supermarket for hours to stop the prostest march. Secret service (Verfassungsschutz🇩🇪) guys infiltrating the march, mass-breakthroughs at police barriers and funny splits between local/Saxon and federal police.
I if this doesn't redpill you, I don't know what will.
Many of us took it without fear. Many people were forced into it which was fucked up - no doubt. And yeah there have been some well documented side effects.
But the whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. People aren't dying in the streets from vax related heart issues any more than they were before. It's all just pathological contrarian nonsense mostly. The whole "Died Suddenly" thing is just pure horseshit. Your heart is fine - move on.
If I hadn’t lived in Sweden ( one of the sane countries during Covid) I would’ve probably taken the shot to not lose my job. Surprisingly, when visiting doctors for other health matters, they NEVER asked if I had taken the shot. That gives me some hope at least.

We were prepared to homeschool (eek!!) our 3 boys if they mandated it for them but thankfully, never came to that. Thankfully, we’d moved to regional NSW and finished up working (from a traditional sense) so we didn’t experience the soul crushing lockdowns those in the cities did.

Agree likely plays a big role for sure, but I seem to find plenty of people who vote for left wing socialist policies, especially the younger demographics. Which is also why the future is concerning in the west as these demographics moves into positions of power in private & public sectors.
i agree with your overall sentiment that people get what they vote for, though i think you're wrong re the vax. 1. every side effect you've heard re the vax is true - clots, myocarditis, and so on. however, those also occur post infection with the virus, and at a higher rate post infection than from the vax. 2. as a young man you were, in fact, not at great risk, but we didn't know that for a while. i visited my daughter in pasadena in late 2020 - she lives across the street from a hospital which had refrigerator trucks running 24/7 to hold all the corpses they couldn't fit into their morgue. the medical profession also believed that vaccinating younger, less personally vulnerable people would retard spread in the general population. that's probably untrue- the virus was imo always destined to become endemic, but it's taken a while to learn that. decision making under uncertainty - that's the name of the game, no?

We didn't quite get to the tyranny levels of Australia here in the UK, but the covid experience will never allow me to trust any of the government and mainstream again, and can't help to think they will try it again in future. All reasons to focus on escaping reliance on a 9-5 or gov support in any form.

Tend to agree. To be fair, I've done some pretty strenuous workouts and tough hikes at altitude where I've given it a good test out. I'm still here.
